North County Respite Care

UCP North County provides In-Home, Non-Medical/Non-Behavioral Respite. Respite services offer a much needed weekly break to family (natural supports) and IHSS caregivers. Respite Caregivers are scheduled to visit in 2 - 4 hour shifts. Respite clients of all ages can enjoy preferred activities, work on goals, or share a meal and have some fun with their Respite Caregiver.

During the Respite visit all other household members are “Off-Duty." They may take time for self-care, run errands, attend appointments, go out for a coffee, or simply take some quiet time to themselves.

This program is strictly in-home. Caregivers cannot drive clients. However, they can enjoy some time in the sunshine, go for walks, or take public transit together.

Respite Hours: Monday – Friday: Between 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. | Saturdays: By Special Request | Sundays: Closed

Your Respite Caregiver: It’s your choice! UCP can provide a registry caregiver, or you can select a family member or friend to be your Respite Caregiver. Family-Selected Caregivers may not reside in the same household as the client. They agree to be employed, trained, and paid by UCP. All UCP employees must pass a health screening and federal level live scan background check.

North County is defined as above Highway 56.

How Do I Get Started?

Request a Respite Assessment from your San Diego Regional Center (SDRC) Service Coordinator. They will complete the assessment and let you know the amount of Respite hours approved for your family. Typically, Respite approved families are granted between 20 -120 hours per quarter, or 2 - 10 hours per week.

After the Respite Assessment, kindly complete the online UCP Respite eligibility form. This will allow UCP to process paperwork with SDRC and schedule your home in-take appointment. SDRC Service Coordinators please complete the same form for Respite referrals.

Once SDRC has submitted a contract for services, UCP will schedule a home in-take appointment. Together, at the home in-take appointment, we will finalize paperwork, create a respite schedule, and determine a Caregiver match for your loved one.
