UCP of San Diego offers a variety of services for children with disabilities and their families. Our goal is to assist each child, as well as his/her family, to reach their highest potential. We believe that early intervention services can benefit very young children.
This unique service has been developed because of our agency's belief in the importance of play in a child's development. It is a mobile toy library which travels around the county and makes designated stops at libraries and recreation centers. Parents are shown techniques to use to enhance their child's ability to play. This service is available to children with any type of disability from birth to 5 years old developmentally.
All children learn through play and use toys as learning tools. Toys offer the reward of fun, enabling children to learn new skills, which focus on abilities rather than disabilities.
The Toy Library is a mobile program, designed to serve you in your own community. Our Toy Librarians travel throughout San Diego County, using libraries, recreation centers and Boys & Girls Clubs as sites. Appointments are also available to meet at the UCP site.
The Toy Library loans instructional toys to families who have children with disabilities. Toy checkout sessions usually occur every two weeks. In each visit to the Toy Library site, toys and their uses are demonstrated for each child. Parents then select, and checkout the most appropriate toys for their child. The Librarian also assists parents with learning how to play with their children to develop cognitive, physical, emotional and social skills.
The library also contains over 30 "Literacy Theme Kits" available for checkout. These kits consist of hardback books, puzzles, puppets, fine motor toys, music CD's with each kit based on a theme such as "The Zoo", "Food", "Babies", "Transportation", etc.
Children with any type of disability, with a developmental age from birth to five years, may take part in this program. There are no income eligibility requirements for participation. Complete an application (English or Spanish) and return it to the Toy Lending Library. There is a $20.00 annual fee for program participants.
The Toy Library is a member of the USA Toy Library Association.

Parents and children are eligible to participate in the software library. The software library provides assistance to parents on selecting software that will aid in their child's development.
Families of young children with disabilities need to have access to assistive technology that create opportunities for their children to show what they know, interact with others, be independent and enjoy control over their lives.
The Software Library loans computer software to children with disabilities, aged 2 to 10 years old. The library provides assistance to parents on selecting software and hardware that will aid in the child's development.
As moms, dads, grandmas, and grandpas browse, they can try things out and think about how their children or grandchildren will be able to use the software and or hardware as well as whether it will be something that they really will want to play with.
Families can figure out what works and doesn't for their child in real life, at home.
Children with any type of disability age 2 to 10 years old.
Software is checked out to take home for two weeks. Upon returning the software, participants may check out another program. Software can be obtained at the United Cerebral Palsy Association office or through our mobile Toy Library sites located throughout San Diego County.
Software is available in a variety of formats and platforms.
Participants are required to fill out a registration form, sign a loan agreement, and pay an annual fee of $20.00. Software is initially obtained through appointment.
